In order to have best results follow these instructions thoroughly.
1. Treat the area with extreme care and tenderness.
a. DO NOT TOUCH THE AREA FOR 6 WEEKS
i. Touching the area will traumatize the wound beneath the gums and interfere with healing.
ii. This includes brushing and flossing! Yes, do not brush or floss the area for 6 weeks. You may gently
brush the lingual or back side of the teeth with a soft manual toothbrush.
iv. Do not use an electronic tooth brush as they are too powerful.
B. DO NOT LOOK AT THE AREA FOR 6 WEEKS
i. This may sound strange but trust us. Our face has hundreds of muscle groups that are interconnected in a web of complexity. Muscles in our lips and cheeks are connected to our gums. By looking inside our mouth you invariably lift the lips and cheeks in order to view the area. By lifting the cheeks and or lips this would pull and puts tension on muscle fibers that are in the area of healing inhibiting the healing process. Do not do this!
2. Keep the area clean with Chlorhexidine mouth rinse.
a. Because you are not brushing and flossing a special mouth rinse will keep the area clean.
b. Use the mouth rinse by:
i. gently sloshing the fluid in and around the mouth keeping your lips gently closed.
ii. DO NOT SWISH the fluid in and around the mouth. This will put tension and force on the muscle fibers.
Read 1 B i above.
3. Keep your post operative appointments
a. usually 1 day
b. 1 week
c. 3 week
d. 6 week
We will photograph your progress at each appointment and polish your teeth at the 6 week appointment.
